While bike riding to work and back each day I hope to inspire, remind and inform people how wonderful cycling is, bringing us closer to nature with paintings of cyclists or paintings related to riding.
Continuing to be inspired by Cezanne’s paintings, a series of bike paintings were made.

During this time I was asked paint a picture for a book to be published about extinct Australian animals, choosing to paint the now extinct Percy Island (QLD) Flying Fox, painting below.
The bat was then incorporated into the bike series with the
painting In Transit. Like many paintings I make it was worked out by doing some drawings first.
Sketch for In Transit
I wanted the figures to be of equal importance. They are both in transit and close to nature. (A feeling that is not like being enclosed in a car.)
I first tried having the bat above the cyclist but it seemed predictable and like the woman was following the bat. Having the women above made her seem like she was flying too.
